Rivers Alive Logo

October 19th, 9 am

Come on over to MWC for our 3rd annual Rivers Alive Clean Up Day. We will meet at GDOT entrance at the foot of N. Ivy and Mountain Dr. We will be mowing, clearing invasive scrubs like privet and picking up trash to make the area safer and more beautiful. Bring gloves and loppers if you have them, and wear long pants and long-sleeved shirts. Water and snacks will be provided.

Enjoy a celebratory BBQ picnic in the park, 1 pm – 2 pm. All are welcome, whether or not you're able to help with the morning clean up. The new, community-created Vision Plan and the Phase 1 design will be on display.

Historic Agreement

Georgia Department of Transportation & City of Atlanta Finalize Approval for Use of Right-of-Way for Park

It’s official! The Georgia Department of Transportation and the City of Atlanta have reached a ground-breaking agreement permitting the City to use GA400 right-of-way as a City park.

Eighty feet below the GA400 bridge, Mountain Way Common is becoming an official City Park thanks to the cooperative efforts of neighbors like Gordon Certain and Dan Weede, the North Buckhead Civic Association, the City’s Department of Parks and Recreation, Representative Edward Lindsey, Councilman Howard Shook, Livable Buckhead, and the Georgia Department of Transportation.

Mountain Way Common is Growing

Benning Parcel Acquisition

We have fantastic news. During the recent Visioning Process we undertook with Park Pride, neighbors voiced the goal of trying to increase the size and usability of Mountain Way Common (MWC) by acquiring one or two adjacent parcels.

Thanks to some fortuitous circumstances, hard work, and the collective efforts of Livable Buckhead Inc., Councilman Shook, Invest Atlanta, and the City of Atlanta, the undeveloped one-acre parcel at the corner of Mountain Way and North Ivy Road adjoining the Georgia Department of Transportation site has been purchased from the Benning family. It will be conveyed to the City of Atlanta by October 2013.

This corner parcel will become the official entrance to the park, and moves our community-created vision ever closer to reality.
